SMS Text Messaging — Privacy Policy

1. Overview
Kilmarnock United Methodist Church (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates an SMS text messaging program to support our monthly community takeout dinner ministry. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect the personal information you provide when you participate in our SMS program.
2. Information We Collect
When you opt in to our SMS program by texting the keyword TAKEOUT or TAKE OUT to (804)567-8361, we collect the following information:
• Your mobile phone number
• The content of messages you send to us (such as your dinner order and requested pickup time)
• The date and time of your messages
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your phone number and message content solely for the following purposes:
• To confirm your dinner order and provide order details
• To send a payment link so you can complete payment for your order
• To send a pickup reminder approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled pickup time
• To manage our monthly dinner ministry and coordinate volunteers
We do not use your information for marketing, fundraising, or any purpose unrelated to the takeout dinner program.
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We use Twilio, Inc. as our SMS delivery platform. Twilio processes your phone number and message content solely to deliver messages on our behalf and is bound by its own privacy policy and data protection agreements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our church community.
5. Data Retention
Phone numbers and order information are retained only as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which they were collected (typically the duration of the current dinner event). Message logs may be retained for up to 90 days for operational purposes, after which they are deleted.
6. How to Opt Out
You may opt out of our SMS program at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. After opting out, you will receive one final confirmation message, and no further messages will be sent to you. You may re-enroll at any time by texting TAKEOUT or TAKE OUT to (804) 567-8361 again.
7. Message and Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply. Please consult your mobile carrier for details on your messaging plan.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our SMS program is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their phone number, please contact us so we can remove the information.
9. Security
We take reasonable precautions to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or mobile network is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
